Buick Gran Sport specs: 1975-1977
The Buick Gran Sport nameplate lived on as the performance version of the colonnade Century. Surprisingly as an upscale Century, it did not get the formal roof like the Luxus and Century Custom, but got the fastback styling of the base Century, which still looks great. The car, like all Smog-Era specials, was watered down but the big block Buick V8 was still offered through 1974. Checking off the GS option group in 1973 & 1974 would net you: Rallye suspension including a rear sway bar, blacked out trim, ‘Gran Sport’ logos. Also included were GR70 tires, oil pressure gauge and coolant temperature gauge. Optionally, the GS cars were allowed to receive the Stage-1 455 or dual exhaust on the 350 V8 that no other Century was allowed to get. In 1974 the rear bumpers were changed out to the Federally-mandated 5 mph unit. Things got worse in 1975, as the Gran Sport morphed into a black-out, performance gauge, and sway bar package, with big blocks being dropped and a V6 now being the base engine.
